Lake County Connections

To create a well community of actively aging adults through technology and connectivity.

We exist to: Connect and support our aging communities through technology and collaborative partnerships contributing to overall healthy lifestyles.

The Pandemic

The October 6, 2020, The Pandemic Effect: A Social Isolation Report by the AARP Foundation and United Health Foundation confirms fears that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused a rise in social isolation and loneliness to epidemic proportions. 66% of US adults report experiencing social isolation and the same percentage agree COVID-19 has caused their anxiety level to increase. Yet, many are not turning to anyone for help.

Unfortunately, you don’t have to go very far to see the face of loneliness. It is everywhere. The Lake County General Health District (LCGHD) stands by our recommendation that Lake County senior centers remain closed until January 1, 2021 due to the fact that COVID-19 is spreading quickly and 96 percent of the COVID-19 related deaths in Lake County have been in those over 60 years of age. However, we cannot fail to also address the escalation in social isolation and loneliness being experienced among our seniors. It is especially critical during the upcoming holiday season that we all make efforts to stay connected.

As a result, “Connections” is now offered through a partnership between the Lake County General Health District, the Painesville Senior Center and We Thrive Together; and in collaboration with the Lake County Council on Aging, Fairhill Partners, and the Wickliffe, Willoughby, Perry, Kirtland, and Eastlake Senior Centers to ensure their members and communities stay engaged and connected during this critical time.

We invite Lake County community members to participate in the FREE online events including: discussion groups, games, exercise classes, relaxation sessions, virtual trips, presentations, support groups, and much more. Click here to see a full list of virtual programming and program descriptions.

The free online events can be accessed by any internet-ready device, or even with a traditional telephone! Please don’t let fear, or a lack of or unfamiliarity with technology stop you, your family, or friends from participating. Our team is here to help you get/stay connected.
